Thank You and Welcome!

Thank You

As I reflect on my 6 months serving as the Interim spokesperson of the Tacoma Rescue Mission, I am filled with gratitude.

I’m grateful that God gave me this opportunity to see our work from a different perspective. I’m thankful that I got to know more people and see a greater variety of the impact this ministry makes. I’m glad I got the chance to connect with faithful partners like you.

I’m excited that Duke Paulson will be stepping in, and I can’t wait to see how God uses his over 25 years of experience to take this ministry into a new phase.

The main thing I want to make sure you know about Duke is that he is one of us. He’s lived in Tacoma most of his life. He went to college here (PLU). He’s worked in Pierce County for decades. He’s active in Young Life ministry at Curtis High School. He, his wife Amy, and their children drive the same roads and shop in the same grocery stores that you and I do.

Duke has a passion for this community, a deep love for Jesus and a calling to help people in need – especially people experiencing homelessness.

Even though I will no longer be the acting Spokesperson of the Mission, I will continue to serve in my role as the President of the Board of Directors. I look forward to continuing to serve with the strength and grace God gives me.

A Brief Introduction

I know you might not know a lot about me yet, and that’s ok. The truth is, this ministry isn’t about me. It isn’t about my background or my skill set. It’s about sharing God’s love with hurting people, and that’s why I’m so excited to be on the team.

The Tacoma Rescue Mission has an incredible history.

It is a ministry with a unique blend of powerfully impactful programs (did you read Marcella and Hector’s story, yet?) and strong faith. Plus, the Mission recognizes that none of us are in this alone. I love that the Mission is a community partnership – a partnership with caring individuals like you, churches throughout the area and organizations who want to make a difference.

I have long admired the way the Mission helps restore people’s lives in tangible ways and helping them become the people God created them to be. Now that I’ve had the chance to meet more of the staff members and volunteers, I am even more blown away by the work ethic, compassion and dedication I see.

I am thrilled that God is allowing me to step into this role. It is my hope and prayer that I serve you and our community well.
