Anthony’S Story
“. . . if you can fill a stomach, you can change someone’s world.”
Anthony had his first drink at nine years old. The feeling it gave him felt like an escape from the rough childhood he was living in. It was an escape that he continued to crave. Years later he found himself battling alcoholism. By the time Anthony found his way to the Mission for help, he’d been drinking for decades. He lost his home and his family. He was left to live out of his truck. Anthony desperately needed help, but he didn’t know where to turn . . .
JANICE’S STORY
An Unexpected Answer to a Desperate Prayer
Janice was thrilled when her job transferred her from Spokane to Tacoma. Her new town felt like a perfect fit. Then, COVID hit and Janice, at 62 years old, had her life turned upside down. With nowhere to go and little savings, Janice was forced to move into her car, searching for jobs on her phone and praying for help. One night, while she was sleeping scrunched up in her car, she pinched a nerve in her back.Janice had no choice but to go to the doctor. He offered her an answer to her prayers . . .
STEPHEN’S STORY
He Just Needed a Second Chance . . .
At 13, Stephen had his first drink. He and a friend snuck into the liquor cabinet at his friend’s house. He immediately realized that drinking made all his hurt and pain – from the abuse he’d experienced throughout his childhood – go away. From that point on, Stephen drank whenever he could. It was the only way he knew how to escape. As the trauma of his past continued to haunt him. Stephen went on to get married and start a family. But, because he’d never healed, his addiction began to destroy his life and eat away at his soul . . .
