Cold weather Shelter

The Tacoma Rescue Mission is expanding its shelter capacity during this cold weather season to provide emergency, overnight shelter to an additional 50-70 neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Downtown campus Day ROOM

Our Day Room, located at our Downtown Campus, will remain open during the day in order to offer refuge from the cold weather for guests who are staying at the Mission.

Make Your own care kits

Care Kits are a simple yet powerful way for you to make a difference in someone’s day and even their life! With every care kit you make and hand out, you are providing essential everyday items that are not easily accessible to our neighbors experiencing homelessness AND you’re helping foster a restorative sense of community, connection, and dignity. Keep them in your car so you can hand one out the next time you come across a neighbor in need.

WHAT YOU CAN INCLUDE IN YOUR CARE KIT

  • Underwear and gloves: Extra, dry pairs of underwear and gloves can help avoid hypothermia in cold, wet weather.
  • Water and food: As we all know, these are essentials. Just make sure that any food or snacks you include are non-perishable and soft enough for those with dental issues to eat.
  • Wipes and hand sanitizer: These two are vital hygiene items. “Wet wipes are like gold for our neighbors on the street,” our Outreach Manager shares.
  • Hand warmers: They are easy to carry and can be life-changing for someone trying to stay warm in the harsh, winter weather.
  • Beanies and hats: These two articles of warmth are small enough to include in a Care Kit and are very helpful for keeping in body heat.
