Tacoma Rescue Mission's Purpose
We help all people; including clients, volunteers, donors and staff, to become their best. We provide emergency services such as shelter and food to the homeless or hurting; offer self-sufficiency programs to help lift a person from poverty and break the chains of addiction; support prevention programs and share our Christian faith.

Tacoma Rescue Mission History
The Mission was founded in 1912 by world-renowned evangelist Gipsy Smith.
While his stay in Tacoma was short, he inspired key individuals to carry out this important work in the name of Christ.
The Mission began as a soup kitchen and chapel to address the physical and spiritual needs of transient men drawn to Tacoma by the lumber and maritime industries.
We now have 12 programs throughout Pierce County. But even after many years, we still haven’t lost our focus on helping "the least of these." ...read the full story
